We are overjoyed to celebrate an incredible milestone: the 73rd Anniversary of the Maria Lawton Older Adult Club (MLOAC)! As Brooklyn’s first Black senior center and the oldest of its kind, MLOAC holds a treasured place in the heart of our community.
Originally founded in 1951 as the Stuyvesant Center for Older People, MLOAC has grown into a beacon of support and inspiration for older adults across Brooklyn.
Today, the Maria Lawton Senior Center continues to lead with a mission grounded in:
🌟 Active Aging – Empowering older adults to live vibrant and fulfilling lives.
🌟 Fighting Social Isolation – Creating a welcoming space for connection and friendship.
🌟 Advocating for Aging in Place – Championing the rights of older adults to remain independent and engaged in their communities.
The 73rd Anniversary celebration was a joyous tribute to resilience, history, and the power of community. Members, staff, and supporters gathered to reflect on MLOAC’s legacy while looking toward the future with hope and determination.
As we honor this historic milestone, we also recommit to the values that have defined MLOAC for decades: love, unity, and advocacy.
Here’s to many more years of building connections and making a difference together!
