A Look Back at October 2024: Fort Greene Council’s Month in Review

As we wrap up October, it’s inspiring to reflect on the energy, engagement, and accomplishments that filled this past month at Fort Greene Council. From meaningful events and creative workshops to community-building activities, October was a month to remember. We’re excited to share these highlights with you in a collage celebrating all the vibrant moments we shared together!

🌸 Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we hosted a series of activities to educate, empower, and support our community. Our events included informative health seminars featuring guest speakers and healthcare professionals who provided valuable insights into early detection and prevention. Additionally, we held a Pink Parties across our centers, where members and staff wore pink to raise awareness and show support for breast cancer fighters and survivors, allowing our community to come together in solidarity for a worthy cause.

🌟 Seasonal Celebrations

October kicked off with festive events celebrating the beauty of fall. Our older adult clubs hosted fall-themed socials, complete with pumpkin decorating, warm beverages, and lively conversations. The autumn spirit brought everyone together, reminding us how special our community connections are.

🎭 Arts and Creativity

Our members embraced their artistic side in a variety of creative workshops this month. From painting and pottery to crafting fall centerpieces, we saw beautiful, original works created by the hands of our talented community members. It’s a joy to see everyone’s personalities shine through their art!

👟 Health and Wellness Initiatives

Health and wellness are at the heart of Fort Greene Council’s mission. This month, we organized several wellness programs, including Tai Chi classes, dance sessions, and guided walks through local parks to keep our members active and connected to nature. Each session brought a renewed sense of vitality and well-being.

🎶 The C. Blenman Choir’s Big Win

One of the month’s major highlights was celebrating the C. Blenman Choir as finalists in the NYC Department for the Aging’s Talent is Timeless Citywide Talent Competition! A special luncheon honored their achievements, and our community came together to applaud these talented singers for their dedication and success.

👥 Community Outreach and Volunteering

We continued to support our community with outreach initiatives. This month, our volunteers assisted in food distribution events, ensuring that local families had access to essential resources. Their compassion and dedication have been an inspiration to us all.

🎉 Halloween Costume Fun

October wrapped up with Halloween festivities across our centers! Members enjoyed costume contests, spooky crafts, and socials that brought laughter and joy to everyone who participated. It was the perfect way to celebrate a month filled with community spirit.
